How do you clean an air conditioner from the inside?

Cleaning an air conditioner from the inside starts with the filter: take it out, wash it with water, and let it dry. Do not pour water into the unit, and do not charge the refrigerant yourself.

An air-conditioner filter being rinsed

What can I clean myself?

The filter is the mesh behind the front cover. Dust on it chokes the air and makes the compressor run longer. The cover itself can be wiped from the outside with a dry cloth. The space behind the coil, the copper pipes, and the electrical board stay closed.

Steps for washing the filter

  • • Switch the unit off from the remote, then from its breaker if it has one.
  • • Lift the front cover and ease the filter out.
  • • Rinse it under running water. Do not use boiling water or a wire brush.
  • • Let it dry in the shade. Putting it back wet collects dust again.
  • • Fit it in the right direction and close the cover before you switch the unit on.

When is a home wash not enough?

If you washed the filter and the air is still weak or warm, or you see ice on the pipes, the problem is past the dust. Read why an air conditioner is not cooling, then book Ajeer AC. How a blocked filter affects consumption is in the summer electricity bill, and the price before the visit is in how to estimate a maintenance cost.

How often should I clean the air-conditioner filter?

Every month in summer and during long running hours. In dust, or near an open road, it may need a shorter interval.

Should I pour water into the unit?

No. Water is for the filter only, after you take it out. Pouring water on the coil or the electrical board can damage the unit.

Does cleaning the filter lower the electricity bill?

Yes, if the filter was blocked, because the compressor runs for less time to reach the set temperature. The detail is in the summer electricity bill.
